The Tingen & Williams Undergraduate Scholarship

This $600 scholarship is dedicated to helping the scholarship winner pay for their undergraduate degree.


This scholarship is open to any U.S. citizen or permanent resident who will be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at a Virginia college or university for the 2021–2022 school year. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to apply.

Scholarship Deadline and Award

All scholarship applications must be received by 11:59 PM EST on May 3rd, 2021. The winner will be announced on or before May 31st, 2021, and will receive a one-time award of $600.

Judging Criteria

This scholarship will be judged and awarded based on (1) prior academic achievement, and (2) a written essay of no more than 1,000 words that responds to the essay prompt below.

While not required, applicants are also encouraged to submit at least one letter of recommendation from an individual who is knowledgeable about their academic merit, as well as a resume or CV if they have work experience.

How to Apply

Each applicant must fill out the form on our application page. This process will include the submission of an essay of no more than 1,000 words which responds to the following prompt:

“Recent immigration reform has placed an undue burden on Central American migrants who wish to apply for asylum in the United States.” Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?
