Learn More About What Sets Us Apart

From business registration to trademark infringement cases and branding consultations, our attorneys have you covered no matter the legal issue.

Most importantly, we take a different approach to legal services by focusing on ways we can solve the most common problems people have with law firms:

N

Problem: It's hard to get in touch with my attorney.

At Tingen & Williams, we’ve made a commitment to always respond to client contacts within one business day.

When you’re already dealing with the stress of running a business, quick and consistent communication is very important.

Our firm has made a commitment to respond to every client contact within one business day, and we’re happy to help you with all of your business development needs.

N

Problem: I've heard about attorneys that will promise one thing and then deliver another, so I'm worried about what to expect.

No attorney can guarantee specific results for any legal matter.

Instead, we aim to help clients understand every aspect of their case before moving forward.

There’s no such thing as a “sure-thing” in the legal world, but we’ll do our best to make sure you know what to expect before you have to make any lasting decisions about your case.

N

Problem: I never know what's going on in my case, and my attorney never explains anything.

We believe that an informed client is a happy client.

From our firm’s extensive Knowledge Base to our client-focused consultation structure, we’ve developed our business around making sure our clients understand the ins and outs of their specific legal matter.

N

Problem: Attorneys are too expensive, and I'm worried that I won't understand where my money is going.

We believe in giving everyone access to justice, and we try to reflect this ideal in every aspect of our practice.

For this reason, we’ve taken steps to make the legal process as affordable and accessible as possible for all of our clients.

While it’s no secret that some legal cases can get expensive quickly, our attorneys ensure you only pay for the services you need.

Further, our transparent billing practices can help you know ahead of time exactly where your money is going.

Virginia Small Business FAQ

u

What type of entity should I register my business as?

The answer to this question will largely depend on your specific business and how you want to expand your operations in the future.

However, most small business owners choose to register their businesses as limited liability companies (LLCs) due to the flexibility and utility of this entity type.

u

How do I get a business license?

In Virginia, the Commissioner of Revenue or Department of Finance for your city or county website will issue your business license.

You’ll have to go to their website or call them to figure out the specific requirements for your location.

u

How do I register my business name?

When you apply to establish a business in Virginia, your business name will automatically be registered for use throughout the Commonwealth.

Sole proprietorships, which don’t require a formal business application, should instead register their name through a fictitious name or “Doing Business As” (DBA) filing with their city or county Clerk of the Circuit Court.

u

What's the difference between an LLC, a corporation, a partnership, etc.?

Put simply, the different types of business entities all serve to adjust the liability, interest, and tax responsibility the owners have in the business.

For example, in a sole proprietorship the owner takes full responsibility for all of the business’s liabilities, while a limited liability company (LLC), as the name might suggest, limits how much liability is passed on to the owner(s).

u

Do I need a special license to operate in particular professions?

Generally speaking, yes, but it can vary from county to county and city to city.

Most of these professions have official licensing boards through the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, so you’ll have to get a license from them.

These professions include, but are not limited to, architects, engineers, barbers, real estate agents, and attorneys.
